Bridge Fitting BF-1/254, 254 mm

A Bridge Fitting is Container Lashing equipment that links the corner castings (Corner Casting) of two containers placed side by side, so the whole row of the stack acts as a single unit. Thai technicians call it a bridge hook or corner casting bridge lock, after the way it bridges the corners of two containers.

When the vessel rolls in the waves, the shear and tension forces are spread across the whole row of the stack instead of acting on one container. This makes the Bridge Fitting a key part of the Lashing system on cargo ships, especially on ocean crossings where containers face waves and vessel movement for weeks.

Besides use on ships, Bridge Fittings are used in depots to secure containers stored in rows so they do not topple or shift, especially tall stacks of empty containers, which catch a lot of wind and risk toppling a whole row in storms.

The Bridge Fitting has a hook on each side joined by a 30 mm threaded rod. Fitting takes three steps:

1. Hook the first side into the side opening of the first container's corner casting.
2. Hook the second side into the corner casting of the container placed next to it.
3. Turn the centre threaded nut to pull both hooks together to the tension you need.

The threaded nut allows precise tension adjustment and makes up for uneven gaps between containers at each point. Once tightened, the Bridge Fitting takes the Tension trying to pull the containers apart and helps control relative sideways movement between them.

• BF-1/254 (254 mm): The shipping industry standard size, for containers placed side by side at normal spacing on ships and in depots
• BF-1/381 (381 mm): For jobs with wider than normal gaps between containers, such as some Deck layouts or special structures

The easiest way to choose is to measure the actual gap between the corner castings of the two containers on site and tell our team, who will confirm the model before you order. A Bridge Fitting that is too short or too long for the actual gap will not use the full thread range for tensioning.

A Twistlock locks stacked containers vertically through the top and bottom holes of the corner castings, while a Bridge Fitting links containers placed side by side horizontally through the side openings. Both are used together in the same Lashing system.
