The short handle truck twist lock is suited to fitting on:

• Container trailers
• Container Chassis
• Flatbed trucks designed to carry containers
• 20 ft and 40 ft container transport vehicles
• Trailers or special structures with Twist Lock positions matching the Corner Fittings
• Transport of Dry Containers, Reefer Containers and ISO Tank Containers where the chassis is designed for them

When the container is lowered onto the chassis, the Twist Lock head slots into the Corner Fitting at the bottom corner of the container. The operator then turns the control handle so the locking head turns and engages inside the Corner Fitting, securing the container firmly to the vehicle.

Truck chassis Twist Locks secure the container from below at the corners. The housing is usually fitted to the chassis frame or truck bed, and turning the handle moves the locking head from unlocked to locked.

1. Check that every Twist Lock is free of cracks, bending, wear or loose parts.
2. Set the Twist Lock heads ready to receive the container.
3. Lower the container onto the chassis so the locking heads line up with the Bottom Corner Fitting at every corner.
4. Check that the container sits fully on its supports with nothing in the way.
5. Turn the short handle to move the Twist Lock head to the locked position.
6. Visually check that every locking head has turned fully into the lock.
7. Before the vehicle moves off, check every Twist Lock again.

Unlock only when the vehicle is parked on firm ground, with no misaligned pressing or pulling loads, and the container properly supported by lifting equipment.

The Statement of Design Compliance for the Gavan Retractable Twistlock Assembly, which lists TLT-1H as one of its parts, sets the maximum Twist Lock ratings as follows:

• Vertical Load: 10,207 kilograms per Twist Lock

These values apply only to assemblies using the listed OEM parts and do not cover the strength or suitability of the vehicle structure the Twist Lock is fitted to. In practice, follow the certification documents for the lot supplied.

Welding the Twist Lock base to the chassis must follow an engineering design and be done by welders and responsible persons with vehicle structure knowledge. Certification of the Twist Lock set does not mean the chassis structure, welds or mounting base will automatically carry the loads.

The locking heads must line up with every Bottom Corner Fitting. Misaligned fitting can load the Twist Lock heads off axis, leave the container not fully seated, or stop it locking fully.

• Do not drive unless every Twist Lock is locked
• Do not use a Twist Lock that is cracked, bent or abnormally worn
• Do not weld repair or bend the locking head without a manufacturer approved procedure
• Do not turn the handle while the container is pressing in the wrong position or the locking head is under side load
• Inspect the handle, shaft, locking head, housing and welds regularly
• After placing the container, confirm it is fully seated on its supports before locking
• Before lifting the container off, unlock every Twist Lock
• Do not mix parts from different manufacturers without inspection

The certification documents require parts to be replaced when deformed, worn or damaged by more than 5% of their original size or shape, and require damaged sets to be inspected before returning to service.
